Krystell Garcia A/K/A Physical Graffiti [Phys] is a multi-disciplinary artist originally from Guayaquil, Ecuador raised in New Jersey/New York. She is a self taught artist and credits much of her work to an intuitive process and having an internal experience with colors, shapes, formlessness, and music which is then manifested and expressed outwardly in her works. Art and Music were immediate interests for her since an early age and continue to be driving forces in her life. Growing up Physical would see how skilled her brother and cousins were in drawing everything from superheroes to animals, objects, people, nature, and anything pretty much along the lines of realism. She states that early on this kept her from pursuing and embracing her style of painting and drawing which is a lot more abstract, undefined, or often consisting of peculiar characters. Music took center focus after years of creative or as she calls it "free writing" and poetry began to manifest into songwriting.
As an MC Physical Graffiti was able to express her creativity in words. She self released her first album "Thought Kryminal" in 2011 and even opened up for Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy) on the Paris Stop of his "Soul Punk" tour that same year. Shortly after that Physical began an independent Record Label with another MC/Visual Artist from her hometown. The music was only pressed on Vinyl and the label’s most noteworthy signature style; in addition to the music and history of “footwork” was their decision to only make one of a kind hand-made covers for each record. The cover art often included mixed media collages and handmade drawings. These works were invited to be apart of group exhibitions in New York as well as in Switzerland.
Inspired by this she started to expand further on her art and continued to produce more works but on canvas. She spent a period of time selling these works in Greenwich Village, NYC however kept her name a mystery to buyers , never signed the work, did not title the paintings, or keep track of what sold. Physical Graffiti officially surfaced as a Visual Artist in 2018’s ’’COLORWAYS” Exhibition and plans to continue to combine her art and music further into new realms. Other mediums Physical explores is Experimental Film, Costume Design, and a combination of Installation Art & Set Design. Her goal with putting all these mediums together is to transform spaces into unique environments for her music and creative concepts to “live in."
on April 30, 2022 Physical Graffiti launched Words Shapes And Colors via an exhibition titled "The Logo" A journey of a color palette and the birth of a "Creative Ecosystem" Words Shapes And Colors serves as the home to all current and future works by Physical Graffiti.
